My mother kept a daily journal between the years 1968 until just before her passing in 1986, a total of 18 years. I have these in my care. They are a journal of the daily goings-on of our family, but they have very good qualities of social record. Kenneth MacLeod, the talented violinist son of Canadian writer Alistair MacLeod, who is an acquaintance and friend, once told me that his father thought that a journal like my mother's is a work of writing that has really substance and storytelling to it. I would like to share her story on this blog. I have scanned an 81 page section of the middle year 1977. I did this initially on the request of my Halifax based piano teaching brother Scot. If God wills I will share eventually the 18 years of this journal of Canadiana. To start, I will just share tonight the "palimpsest" I created for this. It may be slow going if I have to convert the pdf format to jpeg, but by hook or by crook, I will try. The photo is from the wedding day of Alex and Nora on August 26, my father's birthday, in Regina in 1944, which took place at Knox Presbyterian Church.
Knox Presbyterian Church, 12th & Lorne looking northeast, circa 1910. Elevator in background. The church was built in 1906 and demolished in 1952. The Sask-tel building now stands in its place.
